How we take care of you and your car!

Your Car Will Appreciate These Auto Repair Tips

TIP! Be sure and regularly check your radiator. To do this, you need to allow your car to run several minutes, and then turn off the engine.

When your car breaks down, your first priority should be to get it up and running again. Having no car to use can be very inconvenient. That said, you don’t need to shell out tons of money for fixing a car. There are certain repairs you can even do yourself.

TIP! Don’t sign anything until you know the total cost of repairs. If you don’t understand something, clarify your concerns with the mechanic or service adviser before they work on the car.

Find an ASE certified mechanic if you need some repairs. This shows that a mechanic has passed a special test for competence and also shows he or she has at least two years experience as a mechanic. That way, you can have the best mechanics working on your car.

TIP! Make sure you know what is in your auto manual, and mark certain pages for reference. If you have to get an auto repair, the mechanics will need to know specifics from the manual that are unique to your car.

Look over the manual that came with your car. When you need to go to an auto repair shop, the professionals you are dealing with will want to know certain information regarding your car. After reading the manual, you might just find that you have an easy fix on your hands.

TIP! Make sure all repair records are kept close. One good place to keep them is in a folder in the trunk right above your spare tire.

Test your car out after a repair has been done by a mechanic. Make sure it is operating correctly before full payment is made. Many people fail to do this and they end up having the same problem that they had before taking the car in to get it repaired.

TIP! Do not pay an auto mechanic until you have test driven your car to be sure they did their job. If you don’t, you may find that you paid for nothing.

Make sure you have both a spare tire and a jack in your trunk. Newer cars almost always have them. They are extremely helpful if your car experiences a problem while you are out on the road and you don’t want to call a tow truck. It is much easier and inexpensive to do it yourself.

Basic Tools

TIP! Look for signs that should serve as a warning that your repair man is no good. If they talk to you in circles or they don’t pay attention to your questions, you may not be dealing with the best person.

Keep a tool kit for doing auto repairs in your trunk. You should have basic tools such as equipment to change a tire, fix a flat, add oil and a gallon of water. If you don’t have a jack and lug wrench, get one. Basic tools such as screw drivers, wrenches, socket wrenches, torque wrench and other basic tools are also handy to have. Never buy cheap tools. You want tools that are reliable and up to the task at hand.

TIP! Your wiper blades need TLC. If you notice your wiper blades leaving streaks on your windshield, or they chatter, then it is time to obtain new blades.

It should now be apparent to you that you don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune to have your car repaired. Sometimes, you can fix your car yourself. Implement what you’ve learned to help get your car on the road again.
